Summary/Abstract: The important historical fact, as under-emphasized as it is, states that during the comprehensive 19th century restoration of Serbia, the most noted doctors, who assisted the establishment and organization of medical services, were from the areas of today’s Czech Republic and Slovakia. The first among them was a Czech physician of a German origin, Herrmann August Meinert (1805–1858), whose more than interesting work biography is almost entirely related to Serbia (1836–1858) and which in the best possible way reflects the development of early Serbian Medical Corps and the problems faced by medical workers in setting its foundations.
