Summary/Abstract: Georg Heym is considered one of the most important representatives of early expressionism. In his poetry, he devoted himself to describing the metropolis, especially its negative impact on people, for which he was called the poet of the metropolis. He also distinguished himself as a prose writer. The article underlines the connection between the visual language of Art Brut and the semantic and symbolic representations of Georg Heym in his short story Der Irre (“The Madman”).
