Summary/Abstract: The study examines Ioan Slavici’s early journalism, published between 1872 and 1874 in the Arad periodicals “Gura Satului” and “Lumina”. The literary texts are interpreted as formative exercises that reveal an emerging interest in social observation, political satire, and the authenticity of popular language. At the same time, the pedagogical articles articulate a coherent vision of education as a decisive factor in affirming national identity and strengthening the moral cohesion of the Romanian community in Transylvania. By situating these writings within their cultural context, the study argues that Slavici’s Arad journalism represents a crucial stage in the development of his literary voice and civic thought.
