Summary/Abstract: Twenty-five years after the publication of the influential Lehmann’s book Postdramatic Theatre, what seems to be occurring is a renewal of the literary theatre of the nineteenth century. This article will discuss such a turn within the theatreworld understood in accordance with the institutional theories of art, with regard to the disciplinary legacy on the one hand and the development tendencies of the theatre arts on the other. While taking into consideration the founding principles of theatrology as a distinct research field, as well as the authors who have significantly contributed to the comprehension of contemporary times and the arts, we will explain how regressive poetic tendencies are aligned with the processes of commodification of aesthetic objects, and furthermore, emphasize the importance an open stance, both poetic and theoretical, when it comes to the (theatre) arts.
