SCENES OF CLERICAL LIFE: THE CLERGY OF APHRODITO IN THE SIXTH CENTURY

Summary/Abstract: This article analyses papyrological sources from the so-called archive of Dioskoros of Aphrodito (sixth century), which document the diverse socio-economic activities of the local clergy. It seeks to address questions concerning the characteristics of the quotidian life of Aphrodito's clerics beyond the strictly religious sphere. The analysis of the Aphrodito papyri is contextualized with evidence drawn from other documentary corpora and isolated texts.
