Summary/Abstract: Previous research of the Marča-Union in Serbian and Croatian historiography has tried to resolve this issue within the framework of broader macro-Serbo-Croatian relations, often neglecting the local micro-level, ie. personal relations of individuals, but also the religious beliefs of the 17th century. At the same time, previous research mostly focused on the 18th century and incidents during the reign of Maria Theresa. This article is dedicated to the very beginning of the Union of Marča and the motives of Bishop Simeon for its acceptance by analyzing the available archival material. The available archival material shows that the motives of Bishop Simeon were primarily of a personal nature, caused by good personal relations with the representatives of the Zagreb diocese, as well as personal religious beliefs, as evidenced by various archives. Furthermore, it has been shown that the open and systematic pressure on the Diocese of Marča and the Orthodox „Grenzer“ by the Catholic Church begins after the signing of the union, and not before, as some researchers previously suspected.
