Summary/Abstract: The research focuses on unique themes and motifs of the second part of Leo Tolstoy's novel Anna Karenina. The article uses poetic analysis of the text aimed at identifying new semantic information. Some aspects of the process of convergence of figurative details and verbal signs are considered – such as light, shine, crackling, etc. Besides the opposition of fi re and water, the associated discourse manifestations of the images of heroes, including Anna, Karenin, and Vronsky, are also studied. These images are analyzed taking into account the narrative perspective, genre structure, and symbolic codes that form not only the individual fate of the characters but also the general structure of the second part of the novel. Particular attention is paid to how the inner transformation of the characters is manifested through visual comparisons and metaphors, and how the tragic tension that leads to the culmination of the novel grows.
