Summary/Abstract: Up until the first decades of the 19th century, sources about the old church in Osečina are very scarce. However, several important conclusions can be drawn. Parish life existed as early as the 17th century, based on the mention of two priests in the Pomenik of Rača monastery. The most relevant data come from the documents of singel Andrej Joakimović, administrator of the Valjevo episcopacy. From an administrative point of view, the church belonged to the Valjevo district, where there were several other churches, which were very similar in terms of the material they were built from, their size, church furniture, layout and books. Singel’s reports bring information about two priests who served here in 1707/8 and from 1730. The first, Arsenije, originated from Srem, and the latter, Sava, from Herzegovina. Analyzing the origins of other priests from the episcopacy, it is evident that most of them immigrated in search of better parishes and a relatively peaceful life under the administration of the Habsburg monarchy. Osečina’s parishioners were families originating from Herzegovina, Bosnia, Montenegro and Old Serbia. Population settlement in this area would reach its peak during the 19th century, when Osečina developed into a classic road settlement, which was suitable for life due to its natural characteristics and location. During the 18th century, the temple of St. George had two renovations, in 1735 and 1765. In the last Habsburg-Ottoman war, the church was burnt down, and it was rebuilt in the first years of Knez Miloš’s reign.
