Summary/Abstract: Book Review:Mariya Bagasheva. Contrastive Analysis of Bulgarian Realia and Their Translation Equivalents in English and Russian (a corpus-based study). Blagoevgrad: South-West University Publishing House “Neofit Rilski”, 2023. 143 pp. This review presents a detailed synopsis of Mariya Bagasheva’s monograph Contrastive Analysis of Bulgarian Realia and Their Translation Equivalents in English and Russian (a corpus-based study) (2023). The book explores the translation strategies used in rendering realia, phraseological units, proverbs, similes and diminutives from Ivan Vazov’s novel Under the Yoke into English and Russian. By compiling a dataset extracted from the novel and drawing on relevant theoretical frameworks, M. Bagasheva offers a systematic contrastive analysis of the adopted translation approaches. The study reveals important linguistic and cultural patterns, highlighting the interrelation between one Germanic and two Slavic languages. It serves as a valuable resource not only for translators but also for scholars and students in the fields of comparative linguistic and cultural studies.
