Summary/Abstract: The article examines the characteristics of the word order in the book The Labyrinth of the World and the Paradise of the Heart by J. A. Comenius through the lens of the topic-focus articulation theory. There is a brief presentation of the main features of the typical Czech and the Bulgarian word order, of the topic-focus articulation theory, as well as some general characteristics of Comenius’ era and the language of that time. In the second part of the ar- ticle examples from the book are analysed with an emphasis on topic-focus relations, which can be observed at the end of Czech sentences, in comparison with the Bulgarian translation of the text. Special attention is devoted to the position of the predicator.
