Fifty years of Contrastive Linguistics

Summary/Abstract: The article marks the 50th anniversary of the appearance of Contrastive Linguistics, argua- bly the first in the world academic journal dedicated to this branch of linguistics. It traces its long, uninterrupted history since its foundation to the present day, comparing the Bul- garian contrastive linguistics project with similar projects abroad. Appearing in 1976 under a different name as the printed organ of the Group for contrastive analysis of Bulgarian in comparison with other languages at the University of Sofia, it soon became one of the leading Bulgarian linguistic periodicals and received international recognition. Attention is also given to the several editors of the journal and their work, the rubrics of the journal, the types of publications accepted in it, the Annotated Bibliography.
