Summary/Abstract: This paper analyses the current law to identify the extent of the influence of the Church’s teaching on labour and social security law, as this influence is significant. Efficient considerations such as the inalienability of the right to rest, the fraction of the working period, the maximum extent of working time and the minimum extent of rest time, and the effect of the difficulty of work and the season on working time stem from the Church’s teaching. Some of these insights were taken into account by modern labour law almost immediately, others only as time matured. We have excluded some from the current regulation, only to be forced to return to them over time under the pressure of various crises. The influence of Christianity on regulating working hours and rest periods in the current Czech law is still significant.
