Summary/Abstract: The second half of the 20th century can be considered a time of women’s activation in all fields: cultural, political, social, educational and even humanitarian. Both in Europe and in the area where the Serbs lived, associations were founded that gathered mostly women from higher classes or with higher education, with the aim of the emancipation of women, their better status in society and the exercise of rights that were the privilege of men only. However, women also saw the need to create a society that would help not only women, but also the weak, sick, poor and hungry, regardless of gender, age, religion and nation. With such an idea, the Circle of Serbian Sisters was formed in Belgrade in 1903. The board of this Circle in Novi Sad was formed relatively late, in 1929. Throughout its existence, the work of the Board took place in peacetime conditions. The beginning of the war on the territory of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia also meant the end of their work. In 12 years of active work, about 400 Novi Sad women passed through membership of the Circle, organized numerous humanitarian actions, clothed hundreds of children, financially helped not only children from poor families, but also homeless families, refugees, colonists. They participated in all social events and organized cultural programs themselves with the aim of collecting funds and preserving tradition. Parties, tea parties and balls organized by them were fashionable events not only for the people of Novi Sad, but also beyond. From the sold tickets and donations, they created a fund from which humanitarian actions were financed. The Novi Sad Circle expanded its activity by creating two sub-committees: Stepanovićevo and Sirig, as well as through the inclusion of young people within the Youth Circle.
