Summary/Abstract: The Archives of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts in Belgrade and the Croatian State Archives in Zagreb keep state censuses of Srem County from 1780, 1781, 1782 and 1783. Unlike the censuses published so far, these are of exceptional importance because they provide demographic statistics for individual places for all present religions, through various aspects. The censuses included one hundred settlements of Srem County from three districts of Vukovar, Ilok and Irig: Antin, Banovci, Banoštor, Bapska, Bačinci, Beočin, Berak, Berkasovo, Bešenovo, Bešenovo (monastery), Bingula, Bobota, Bogdanovci, Brestač, Bršadin, Buđanovci, Veliki Radinci, Vera, Vizić, Voganj, Vrdnik, Vukovar and Novi Vukovar, Gaboš, Gibarac, Grabovo, Grgeteg (monastery), Grgurevci, Divoš, Dobrinci, Erdevik, Ilača, Ilok, Inđija, Irig, Jazak, Jazak (monastery), Jankovci, Jarmina, Kamenica, Korođ, Kraljevci, Krušedol, Krušedol (monastery), Kuveždin (monastery), Kukujevci, Ledinci, Ležimir, Lovas, Ljuba, Mali Radinci, Manđelos, Maradik, Marinci, Markušica, Mihaljevci, Molovin, Mohovo, Negoslavci, Neradin, Nestin, Novak, Nuštar, Opatovac, Ostrovo, Pavlovci, Pačetin, Petrovci, Petrovci, Privina Glava (monastery), Putinci, Ravanica (monastery), Rakovac (monastery), Remeta (monastery), Remetica (monastery), Rivica, Ruma, Sviloš, Svinjarevci, Sibac, Sot, Sotin, Stejanovci, Subotište, Susek, Tovarnik, Tompojevci, Tordinci, Trpinja, Hopovo (monastery), Cerić, Čakovci, Čalma, Cerević, Šarengrad, Šatrinci, Šid, Šišatovac (monastery), Šuljam. The first population census in the Habsburg Monarchy was the so-called Josephine census carried out from 1784 to 1787, while these censuses from 1780 to 1783 represent trial censuses. These trial censuses contain the number of inhabitants by religion and by gender and age, then the number of foreigners, and servants and maids, beggars, monastics and priests by religion. The last part of the census contains the number of births, deaths and marriages during that and the previous year and analyzes them in order to show the natural increase of that year. These censuses have not been published so far and they are extremely important for the study of demographic trends in Srem and the history of three religions: Orthodox, Roman Catholic and Protestant. The data were brought in the form of original archival materials, and due to the scope of the work itself, comments and conclusions were made in brief.
