Summary/Abstract: This paper presents the results of a study collection and distribution of state treasury revenue from nahiyes of Šabac, Gornja Mačva and Donja Mačva, as well as the influence of collection on the peasants (reâyâ). The Ottoman tax system in the form of tax-farm (iltizam) was reinstated in the re-conquered territories after the end of the Ottoman-Habsburg war (1736–1739). In 1742, revenues of the central state treasury were leased for life to the commander of the local army in Zvornik, captain Ibrahim-aga and his brother Ali. A part of the revenue, that was collected from the area of the mentioned nahiyes, was registered as a part of the military fund (ocaklık). It was an annual sum registered for the salaries of the local army in the fortresses Šabac, Zvornik and Teočak. According to the order, the revenues were registered as an ocaklik could have been collected by the tax administration of the local army commander. In this instance, the revenues should have been collected by the administration of captain Ibrahim-aga on behalf of the local army in fortresses of Zvornik and Teočak and by the administration of the Belgrade muhafiz-vizier on behalf of the local army in fortress of Šabac. Both of them have been demanded of the same types of duties since 1742 to 1747. In this period, it led to a number of illegal activities by those who collected revenue and led to a great deal of pressure on the peasants. This problem was ended by sultan’s decree in 1747. According to the sultan’s decree, it was strictly defined which administration was entitled to collect which duties. The results of the research contribute to the study of the financing of the local army and complete the data about economic position of the peasants at kadiluk of Šabac in the mid-18th century.
