Summary/Abstract: Károly Szabó is known primarily as a historian, bibliographer, and the first librarian of the Transylvanian Museum Society. He is also known for significant contributions to research in the field of onomastics. He collected the toponyms of his native village, Köröstarcsa, and developed a methodology that is still relevant today. He considered it important that during the collection process the settlement be considered as a unit, thereby advocating for systematic research. He emphasized the importance of local knowledge and the good relations with the informants among local population to create a complete and systematic collection, and at the same time to provide accurate explanations of the toponyms.
