Summary/Abstract: Where and how does the collective memory of the long-range social mobility of the communist period take place in the memory culture of the Eastern European region? This paper is organized around a sketchy test of the hypothesis that the character of the educated, intellectual, white-collar woman in (East) European co-produced feature films is such a media(tic) memory form or figure. In the following analysis, attention will focus on the way in which the iconography of the educated, intellectual woman associated with Eastern Europe stages the tense coexistence of different class-habitus, using the notion of embodied cultural capital as a unit of analysis.
