Summary/Abstract: Precious metal spoons, usually silver or gold plated, have been and were used in the rites of the Divine Liturgy for the communion of the faithful. In all Christian churches of the first seven to eight centuries after Christ, the use of the spoons is unknown. Itis not until 861 AD that liturgical spoons are first attested among the liturgical vessels of Antioch and Jerusalem. They then become widespread in the 11th-12th centuries, with all the sources from the Eastern Orthodox world speaking of the use of spoons for the communion of the laity and the lower clergy. In the mini-exhibition at the Bogdana Monastery, as well as inthe exhibition organized under the aegis of the Religious Culture and Art Museum in Borzesti, the 19th century communion spoons, inventoried and catalogued by the nuns of the monastery and the curator of Borzesti Museum, represent a small part of the priceless heritage, which can be classified in one of the Treasure or Fund categories of the national cultural heritage.
