Summary/Abstract: Lili Hatvany was a leading newspaper editor, playwright and critic in 1920’s Hungary, who, despite her works relevant to theatre and press history, did not become part of the Hungarian literary canon. Her work as a playwright extended far beyond the borders of Hungary and Europe: in addition to her successes in Hungarian theatres, her plays have been performed hundreds of times on Broadway in New York. Lili Hatvany was present at all the representative events of high society, she attended the greatest fashion shows in Pest and Paris – the fashion icon shared her experiences and suggestions with her readers in articles that can now be read as documents of historical period and social class. Her career as a fashion consultant and critic is intertwined with Színházi Élet, of which she was a popular author and editor. The aim of this study is to create a portrait of Lili Hatvany based on articles of Színházi Élet, written between 1918 and 1938. On the one hand, this portrait may make visible the forgotten author, on the other hand, it may justify the rehabilitation of her articles and dramas, and the future research of her reception in Hungary and America.
