Summary/Abstract: I propose a comparative reading of three texts by 20th-century authors - A nagy sikoly by Renée Erdős, Leányok by Terka Lux, and Nem vagy igazi! by Sophie Török - by exploring common points of interpretation regarding the experience of individual desires and their relation to normative systems. In my comparative analysis, I trace the identity-forming effects of less discussed yet problematic issues that arise in the novels beyond female emancipation: the question of motherhood or abortion, as well as the legitimacy of discourse on intimacy and sexuality. My research also emphasizes that the problematics of identity in the works of twentieth-century women writers, as well as the socio-historical analysis of these literary works, can contribute to the extension of historical-literary and sociological perspectives outside the texts in the context of the early 1900s. It also supports the need to develop a specific language for analyzing women’s literature.
