Summary/Abstract: The study examines the work entitled The Shepherd Man (Pásztorember) by the Jesuit János Molnár, published in 1775. The author’s aim is to popularize science, considering it his mission not only to educate and enlighten pastors but also to spiritually nurture them by disseminating prayers and reflections. He provides pastors with physical and astronomical knowledge in understandable language and opposes superstition. Utilizing the source works of Buffon and Linnaeus, he writes a substantial zoological overview. In the analyzed work, the allegorical approach, the influence of physico-theology, and the endeavor to attain a level of natural science commensurate with the era are uniquely blended. Due to the use of first Hungarian language terms, I recommend the book to the attention of linguistic research.
