Summary/Abstract: The study shows that in the language use of Hungarian speakers from the Transylvanian Plain, the indirect Romanian influence and semantic interference is very strong, and the collocations, sayings and proverbs also contain words and expressions translated from the Romanian language. The material contains several occasional or more frequent phrases and idioms that are not used in the Hungarian vernacular language, but have Romanian equivalents, so these expressions are the results of translations. In many cases, well-known Hungarian and Romanian phrases are mixed within the same expression. However, the recorded collocations and idiomatic expressions do not contain Romanian loanwords, so there is no direct lexical impact at this level. Throughout the region, there are sayings and proverbs that have no known Romanian equivalent, yet, are used in a different form from the vernacular one. Overall, it can be concluded that the constant contact and coexistence of the two languages and cultures is also present at the level of collocations and idiomatic expressions.
