Summary/Abstract: Professor Ljubomirka Krkljuš, PhD, was a jurist by education, but her primary fields of research were the history of Serbs in Southern Hungary, the question of autonomy as well as the constitutional and legal status of Vojvodina. She had a particular interest in the history of The Serbian national movement of 1848–1849, the activities of certain prominent figures in the political, cultural and public life of Serbs in Southern Hungary, the establishment and development of Serbian judicial terminology, and the unification of contemporary area of Vojvodina with the Kingdom of Yugoslavia and the formation of a common state. She explored the political, legal and constitutional aspects of that process as well as other topics related to the political and legal history of Serbia in XVIII and XIX centuries, such as the legal system of Military Border. Professor Krkljuš devoted particular attention to the legal status of the Serbian people from both a legal-historical and political perspective, estimating it to be a defining framework – opening or closing possibilities for the development and progress of Serbian people in every regard – economic, social, educational and cultural – with the ultimate outcome of preserving the national and religious identity.
