Summary/Abstract: The high artistic potential of the great sculptor of interwar Bessarabia, Alexandru Plămădeală (1888–1940), left a profound mark on local fine arts, an imprint that continues to be felt to this day. The transition from the forms of peasant art to the high standards of universal art became possible thanks to the master’s theoretical and practical explorations. Together with his predecessors Terentie Zubcu and Vladimir Ocușco, he succeeded in bringing the entirety of academic art closer to the young talents of Bessarabia, making it accessible for their assimilation.
