Summary/Abstract: Due to its location on the banks of the Dniester River and its purpose of protecting Moldova’s borders, Soroca has transformed from a simple customs house with a medieval fortress into a commercial and administrative center of regional importance. By superimposing the 1781 settlement certificate on modern topographic maps, the exact outline and area of the Soroca border were identified, which had been incorrectly shown since 1931in scientific studies. At the end of the 18th century, the process of urbanization of the Soroca town began. During the three Russian-Turkish wars of 1762-1812, the first topographic surveys of Soroca were carried out by Russian military topographers. Analyzing maps from the end of the 18th and the beginning of the 19th century, we can argue that a rectangular street structure began to take shape in Soroca at that time, which will be confirmed in the city development plan of 1846. In Moldova in 1772-1773, the first census was carried out that provided information on the economic and human potential. Over the course of 244 years, Soroca underwent changes, as a result of which the area of urban agricultural land was reduced, and urban development and population increased.
