Summary/Abstract: The aim of this article is to examine messages conveyed in verbal interpretations of bird voices, which used to be present in traditional Polish culture. The author looks at the reasons why people chose to translate bird voices into their own language and what they actually believed the birds to tell them. By conducting an analysis of numerous selected examples of messages directed by birds to people, the author attempts to reveal what abilities were traditionally attributed to different bird species based on the contents of these messages. The article also examines the consequences of the antropomorphization phenomenon, which laid at the heart of such interpretations.
