Summary/Abstract: Parental authority is a key element of the legal relationship between parents and children, defining the scope of their mutual rights and obligations. Its primary purpose is to protect the child's well-being and ensure their proper physical, mental, and social development. This article discusses the legal basis, functions, and obligations of parents towards their children, as well as situations in which the court may interfere with the exercise of parental authority. It also emphasizes that the overarching objective of parental authority is to protect the child's well-being and provide appropriate conditions for physical, emotional, and social development. Parental authority is not merely a set of rights; on the contrary, it primarily entails the parents' obligation and responsibility towards the child. Properly exercising parental authority is the foundation of healthy family relationships and a guarantee of family security and stability.
