Summary/Abstract: The author’s aim is to briefly review the fundamental technological transformation that took place in world musical practice between 1980s-2020s; to introduce the definitions “the first digital turn” and “the second digital turn”; to study their influence on the Moldovan pop music of the last five decades. The “first digital turn” determined the application of synthesizer-based keyboards, electronic drums, and MIDI protocol, which radically changed the musical practice. An example of this type is the sound recording process of the rock-opera Miorița, written by Liviu Știrbu, by using Roland U-110 and Yamaha PSS-150.The “second digital turn” in Moldovan pop music at the beginning of the 21st century is associated with massive use of online platforms and streaming services.“Sub pielea mea” and “Eroina” by Carla’s Dream have obtained world audience on Shazam and YouTube. Another trend in Moldovan pop-music is related with new amateurs, who create a sound content using possibilities of digital tools; the soundtracks of the Moldovan vlogger Vova Carmanov being examples of this kind.
