Summary/Abstract: Household profiles with unmet financial needs owing to unexpected expenses are crucial for understanding the underlying mechanisms, identifying the social groups most vulnerable to financial risks, and developing appropriate support tools and public policies. This study aimed to identify the factors driving material deprivation in households and create a profile of those most at risk of insufficient financial resources. Based on data from the representative European Union Statistics on Income and Living Conditions survey, the analysis focused on Polish households, considering factors such as income, poverty, social exclusion, economic activity, and demographic characteristics. Single-person households and lone parents with children are particularly vulnerable to poverty. The financial situation of households is significantly affected by the education, health, and employment status of the household head. Additionally, regional location may have a more substantial impact than the urban-rural divide. This study highlights the need for a deeper understanding of the complex factors affecting household finances and the development of effective strategies to improve social welfare by considering regional and individual differences. These findings provide insights into the structure of the problem and can lead to more effective support measures.
