Summary/Abstract: Less than six months ago, at the proposal of the Director of the Romanian Review of Private Law, I was preparing a Laudatio for Professor Ion Deleanu, on the occasion of his being awarded, by the prestigious journal together with the National Union of Romanian Bar Associations, the “Matei B. Cantacuzino” prize for Opera Omnia, as well as the declaration of the year 2014 as the “Ion Deleanu Year”. In that Laudatio, I expressed my hope that we would enjoy the Professor’s creative capacity for a long time to come, quoting “the promise of returns” made by him in the “Argument” to his recent work Case Law and Jurisprudential Reversal, a legal essay which, in his already established style, opened new horizons toward a possible general theory of case law and jurisprudential reversal. All the more difficult and sad—almost absurd and hard to accept—is the transition from in honorem to in memoriam.
