The Cultural Attitude in the 'Book on 'Kultura'' by Andrzej Mencwel

Summary/Abstract: This article is devoted to an analysis of the reconstruction of the essence of the practical and theoretical attitude of the Polish literary-political periodical 'Kultura' (Paris) during its first ten years of existence, presented by Andrzej Mencwel in his 'Book on 'Kultura'' ['Książka o 'Kulturze'']. Originality of this attitude was a result of heterogeneity of two sources of Polish humanist orientation, named by Andrzej Mencwel „culturalism” (developed at the same time by left thinkers from Warsaw and by Florian Znaniecki) and of the adaptation by 'Kultura' the English and American liberal attitude and personalism as both the intellectual and practical point of view.
