Summary/Abstract: This study particularly draws attention to 50/51 family heads who were boatmen of Naval Salt Transport Office from Partoș, as well as to 3 widows of boatmen; these were mentioned by Fiscal conscription of Șibot village, from the military year 1802, concerning their public taxes to the Austrian rule, which they paid in the mentioned year. The previously unknown data provide indubitable, accurate information about the number and names of the inhabitants from the mentioned village who, throughout the military year 1802, also held the position of boatmen at the Naval Salt Transport Office in Partoș, as well as about their financial situation. These are definite contributions to local history, but also that of practising rafting along the Mureș River, at the end of the 18th century and the beginning of the 19th century. The respective historical information could be compared, in detail, with extremely valuable documentary information, subjected to scientific scrutiny by Ion Dordea, in 1981, also related to some crews of boatmen from Șibot, operating on March 14, 1804. Similarly, a comparison was made between the social status and financial position of the river navigators and that of some of their fellow villagers, mainly those who seemed to be superior to them from these points of view, either apparently or not totally so.
