Summary/Abstract: After the proclamation of the sovereignty of the Republic of Moldova in 1991, in the context of the new political, social, cultural, and economic climate, there occurred changes in the thematic, conceptual, and artistic levels in satirical graphics. In the satirical graphics of the Republic of Moldova of the beginning of the last decade of the 20th century, themes and subjects, encountered both in the previous decade and more recently, are artistically practiced. They are developed artistically by plastic artists by endowing the image with complex symbolic connotations, and sometimes being accompanied by philosophical valences. Paradigm changes also occurred at the editorial-polygraphic level. Several periodicals have updated their activity, some by adopting new editorial plans, and others by disappearing from the publishing market. New satirical graphic publications such as Filaret al cincilea, Cactus, and Constelaţia Post-Scriptum are established. The graphic works made by established artists in the field can be found not only on the pages of the satire and humor magazine Chipăruş but also on the pages of numerous newspapers and magazines such as Literatura şi Arta, Saptămâna, Lanterna magică, Tribuna, Mesagerul, Tineretul Moldovei. During the mentioned period, artists Iurie Rumeanţev, Alexei Grabco, Leonid Domnin, Valeriu Curtu, Iurie Simac, as well as those of the new generation of plastic artists such as Alex Dimitrov, Margareta Chiţcatîi, Ştefan Aghachi, Boris Leonov, Valeriu Turtă, Mihai Ciubotaru et al. contributed to the development of caricature art in the republic.
