Summary/Abstract: The paper seeks to explore the message of Stage II – Plank Bed (Sigismund Chapel), painted by Zbylut Grzywacz in 1982. shortly after his deliverance from the Wiśnicz Retreat. Ke scene depicted in the painting is interpreted as an allegory of the days of the Solidarity and presented in the context of painter’s interests in geology (he was an amateur stone collector). Ke paper emphasizes the affinities between the painting and Romantic tradition by showing how the visual elements of the scene are related to the literary theme of Dziady (pre-Christian All Souls ritual) and the cult of the royal graves of Wawel Hill.
