Summary/Abstract: The period that followed the end of the Cold War has put realistic thinkers in a difficult position due to the criticism emanating from the opponents of this doctrine as to realism’s inability to give a coherent explanation to this moment of contemporary history. The subsequent events that occurred in the international arena (the first and the second Gulf War, the wars in former Yugoslavia, the war in Libya, etc.) have turned realism into a topical issue, as a way of thinking and interpreting events in the international sphere. This article aims to highlight the topicality of the realistic way of thinking in the Middle East and North Africa.
