Summary/Abstract: The article explores postsecular imaginary and religious sensibility in the (post-)Sovietcontext. The author draws on 166 in-depth interviews conducted with scholars fromLithuania and Ukraine. In these interviews, the imaginary appears as a specific “spaceof containment” that preserves images of divinity, characterized by a high degree ofsimilarity and convergence (“tuning-in”). Respondents’ internal disposition towarda particular form, here termed “sensibility,” serves as the driving force behind the imaginary. The author reconstructs the genealogy of the identified imaginary in the atheisticSoviet state, which shaped a sensibility open to science yet simultaneously mysticallyinclined. This case provides an opportunity to reflect on whether proto-religious, fluidsocial solidarity can persist in (post-)secular societies and whether the imaginary andsensibility can serve as spaces for its preservation. In this context, the author offersseveral methodological reflections.
