Summary/Abstract: The article deals with the articulation of memory, belonging and space in the postcolonial and post-socialist context. It firstly refers to conceptualisations of collective memory as intertwined and multidirectional, i. e. as not fixed in its interpretation, and as the subject of disputes about social and societal belonging. This perspective is supplemented by a decolonial approach to orders of belonging. Against this background, studies will be discussed that deal with practices of (re)memorialisation in the post-socialist space from 1989 onwards and that show how these were closely linked to the renegotiation of local, national and transnational affiliations. Thereby, both the racialised and racialising character of postcolonial and post-socialist orders of belonging becomes apparent. Finally, a solidarity-oriented practice of memory-activism that destabilises both nation-state-capitalist oriented and essentialising interpretations of history is discussed.
