Summary/Abstract: The number of readers who step inside a library is declining day by day. Today, Romania has only about 40% of the number of people who, 35 years ago, borrowed books from libraries to take home or read directly in the reading rooms. This data is insufficient to draw a conclusion regarding a potential decline in the appetite for reading. Instead, it tells us something about the interest in libraries as institutions: it is in steady decline.
