Summary/Abstract: The study examines the largest prison uprising in the history of Czechoslovakia after the lifting of the embargo, which took place at the end of March 1990 in the Leopoldov Correctional Institution. It analyzes the set of causes that led to the uprising, including overcrowding in the prison, poor living conditions, arbitrary behaviour of the guards, and the general atmosphere of discontent and hopelessness among the inmates. The study reconstructs the course of the uprising—from its outbreak to the subsequent trials—with an emphasis on key moments and actors. It analyzes the tactics and strategies of the rebellious prisoners, as well as the response of the prison administration and security forces in suppressing the revolt. It also includes an analysis of the immediate and long-term consequences of the uprising. The thesis examines the political and social reactions to the event, including changes in legislation and in the treatment of prisoners. The main aim of the study is to provide a comprehensive and objective view of the 1990 Leopoldov prison uprising and to contribute to a deeper understanding of issues related to impri sonment and human rights.
