Summary/Abstract: This paper presents an analysis of linguistic idiosyncrasies found in the poetry of Ryszard Krynicki. The focus is on the use of neologisms, terms, colloquialisms, mythologisms, archaisms and orthographicchoices. It was observed that the linguistic idiosyncrasies serve to illustrate the existenceof a human being in the second half of the 20th century. They provide a backdrop for outliningexistential experiences that were common within the society of the Polish People’s Republic (PRL).They reveal Krynicki’s unique way of perceiving and experiencing the world. These elements aresignificant in that they attest to the poet’s erudition. In order for the reader to fully comprehendthe ideological message of the poems, it is necessary to decipher these elements.
