Summary/Abstract: The subject of the research is the lexeme nurek understood as ‘evangelical, follower of evangelicalism’.This meaning is not included in general dictionaries of the Polish language, and amongdialectal dictionaries it is only confirmed by Bernard Sychta’s Dictionary of Kashubian dialects. The aim of the article is to try to answer the questions contained in its title, namely: how the lexemesnurek and sznurek came to be identified, when it happened and in what area. At the same time, the article is a commentary on a short article by S. Urbańczyk (Sznurek, i.e. an evangelical) referringto K. Nitsch’s field research conducted at the beginning of the 20th century in Mogilno, Greater Poland.
