Summary/Abstract: This paper explores the political tendencies in Vergil’s Eclogues/Bucolics, analyzing how pastoral poetry reflects the social and political transformations in the Roman Republic and the early Augustan period. Special focus is placed on the depiction of lost land, the relationship between shepherds and authority, and allusions to historical events. Through a detailed interpretation of individual eclogues, the paper demonstrates how Vergil combines idealized images of rural life with implicit political messages, suggesting support for the new order while also expressing nostalgia for the past. The conclusion asserts that the Eclogues are not merely a form of literary escapism but also a subtle means of political commentary during a turbulent period of Roman change.
