Summary/Abstract: The Church of Panagia-tou-Gallou (Gavrio, Andros) displays Latin–influenced features: originally cruciform plan and vaulted nave, absent prothesis niche, thick piers, and partial use of limestone in masonry. The nearby toponyms Maro-nitis and Chamotoura (from Aramaic Ḥammaṯūrā, “mountain’s hot spring”), along with André Thevet’s 16th-century map labeling the church S. Cyrille – a dedication linked to Anti-Chalcedonian Christians – suggest its association with a Maronite settlement after 1291 (Acre’s fall). Adapted for Orthodox use after the late 16th century, the church was given a flat corbel-vaulted roof. This interdisciplinary study sheds light on the overlooked history of a lesser-known medieval monument.
