Summary/Abstract: This study examines the expulsion of nearly three million Czech or Sudeten Germans from Czechoslovakia after World War II, which facilitated the rise of the communists to unlimited power in the country. It contextualises this violent transfer within a nationalist-socialist revolution. It places the topic of the forced displacement of Czechs/Sudeten Germans during the Third Czechoslovak Republic (May 1945–February 1948) in this context, and presents the reasons that led the author to label the displacement as genocide and crimes against humanity. The author emphasises that it was the Czechoslovak state authorities who shaped the brutal manner of the forced expulsion of the Czech/Sudeten German populations. They also address the broader causes and documentation of the ethnic homogenisation of the Czechoslovak state, as well as the tragic course and consequences of post-war events. They point to the ongoing inadequacies in Czech reflection on these historical facts. This study builds upon the author’s treatise on retributive justice in post-war Czechoslovakia, Retributive Justice after May 1945: Restitution or Nemesis?”, published in Securitas Imperii, No. 42–43, 2023.
