Summary/Abstract: The article focuses on the problem of school failure among children entering the first grade of regular primary schools (in the Czech Republic, these are schools for children between six and eleven years old). School failure is a worrying phenomenon that has a negative impact on children’s lives and can affect their future academic growth and career success. The aim of this article is to analyse the causes of school failure in this specific age group and to propose effective strategies and interventions that could contribute to reducing the problem. The article presents the various factors that contribute to school failure among children entering the first grade. Such factors include children’s lack of readiness for school education, inadequate support by the family and environment in which children grow up, and insufficient specific pedagogical strategies for working with this age group. Furthermore, the article presents some effective interventions and strategies that could help to reduce school failure among students in the first grade. These strategies include preschool programs aimed at preparing children for school, strengthening family-school collaboration, providing support for students with special educational needs, and using differentiated teaching methods and resources.
