Summary/Abstract: This overview approach indicates to a long-term presence of misrepresentation in the historiography of one of the participants in the period before the famous war between Bosnia and Dubrovnik from 1403-1405. Misread citations from archival material resulted in endless flawed repetitions. The person who constantly appears in literature, even though he does not exist with such an identification, is Pavle Maštrović. His identification, as Pavle Masnović, was correctly established by Bariša Krekić, but this was not noticed by the historiographers. Pavle Maštrović, a secondary character in the treated events and in such a role, despite bringing attention to the fact that he was wrongly identified (Neven Isailović), continues to be a fiction that survives within the literature and defies time. The basis of the problem is the statement that behind him is a real person, Pavle Masnović, a significant personality of his time who needs to be brought out of the shadow, contextualized and provided with a more adequate position in the historiographical production. In that sense, there was no shortage of assumptions at this point.
