Summary/Abstract: Internet memes are an emergent form of text that has developed through the use of affordances of the internet and its individual platforms. They are characterized on the one hand by their viral dissemination in discourses, and on the other by their formal, substantially multimodal design and their prototypical functionality. This article exemplarily analyzes an internet meme that can be assigned to the genre of “conspiracy narrative internet memes.” In the course of this analysis, it is shown to what extent the definition and contouring of this genre can be problematized, especially due to the peculiarities of the internet and its usage. Consequently, both the traditional concept of genre and that of text are to be questioned in light of this new form of text.
