Summary/Abstract: In this article, I aim at investigating some aspects related in particular to the first period (1881-1886) of the existence of the “Carol I” Museum of Brăila, in order to bring to light some lesser-known details. I will start from a rather lapidary piece of information, which Atanasie Popescu noted in 1887, namely that (at that moment) “the scientific museum [owned] a small collection of physics instruments and a set of ancient coins”. The information is important, as it allows us to assume that the museum in question had a historical component from the very beginning (i.e. related to the science of history) and that it was not (at least in practice) intended exclusively for the natural sciences, as had been initially planned.
