Summary/Abstract: The study reevaluates the chronology of documents issued by the chancellery of Prince Radul the Great, ruler of Wallachia (1495-1508), for the years 1501-1508, focusing on two documents dated March 26, 7013/1505. They were published 1972 in “Documenta Romaniae Historica” (DRH), series B, volume II. In the ruling/princely council of that (very) day attested in its documents the testimony of two Grand Chancellors, Staico and Bogdan. By analyzing the “alternation” of the members of the princely council, the paper seeks to clarify the uncertainties surrounding the dating of the two documents. I briefly compare these findings with the situation in subsequent reigns, such as that of Radul of Afumați for the years 1525-1526 and Vlad the Drowned for 1530-1532, where similar alleged “alternations” of the council members led to corrections in the chronology of the published documents. The central figures of the research are Grand Chancellor Staico and his wife, Caplea, the sister of Radul the Great and daughter of former ruler Vlad the Monk (1481, 1482-1495). I analyze Staico’s political career, his family environment, and patronage activity – the foundation of the church in Dragomirești village. A result of the research is the fact that Caplea and her father, Prince Vlad the Monk, are about a generation (20 years) younger than previously assumed in historiography. After Staico’s death, Caplea remarried in the second half of 1505 the new Grand Chancellor Bogdan. Through documentary, genealogical, and prosopographical analysis, I reassess the dating of a total of four documents. Ultimately, the study provides an overview of the members of the princely council (see Annex).
