Summary/Abstract: The paper presents the results of an analysis of woodcut press illustrations conducted within the next phase of an original project devoted to a comprehensive study of the graphics in 19th century Polish illustrated magazines. The aim of the study was to inventory all woodcut illustrations printed in “Tygodnik Ilustrowany” during selected years of its publication, identify woodcutters’ names and initials left on copies and to define the years during which each of the artists used to work for this paper and then to determine the number of woodcuts signed by each woodcutter as well as the most common subjects that appeared in the artists’ works. The results published in form of a table and a chart provide an overview on the broad occupational group of Polish woodcutters, the dynamics of their employment and works intended for the leading Polish illustrated magazine aimed at general public of the second half of the 19th c. and may turn out useful for further studies on the history of Polish press graphics as well as for comparative analysis of that time European press.
